CAB Alternative Breaks

A.S. Community Affairs Board (CAB) sponsors two annual week long volunteer trips during winter and spring break, and 1 weekend trip in Spring.

Volunteer destinations have included Hurricane Katrina relief in New Orleans, Hurricane Sandy relief in New York and New Jersey, and our latest trip with the National Park Service to the Grand Canyon.  (All past trips https://cab.as.ucsb.edu/past-trips/)

On average about 200 students apply to participate on each of the week long trips, and 10 to 12 students are selected to attend.

CAB has 2 student Alternative Break Co-coordinators that organize the trip destination and student selection process.  Also 1 AS staff member typically accompanies students on the trips.

CAB fully sponsors funding for the trip at no cost to all students attending.  These expenses include the volunteer opportunity, flights, any travel, food, and housing accommodations.
