Why join CaB?
Joining CAB provides the opportunity to gain valuable leadership experience, build your resume, make new friends, and learn to manage a sizeable budget while earning a quarterly stipend. All CAB leaders are expected to attend weekly leader and general meetings, complete individualized office hours, participate in a minimum of two volunteer activities per quarter, and attend the leader retreat at the beginning of each quarter. Members must also become familiar with AS financial policies and actively participate in funding request discussions, in addition to completing at least two tabling hours per quarter.

CO CHAIR (2)
Act as liaisons between the community and the UCSB campus and establish student volunteer programs to work with various community service organizations and projects. This position will be run by two (2) coordinators who will share the following duties:
1) Compile the weekly agenda for the CAB leader and general meetings.
2) Responsible for running the CAB’s Business meetings.
3) Responsible for maintaining the CAB’s Project record.
4) Implement effective student volunteer projects.
5) Proactively recruit and retain volunteers.
6) Responsible for overseeing all funding proposals that come to the CAB and the CAB Foundation.
7) Work with the Secretary to finalize and send out the minutes from the CAB meeting, Foundation meeting, Leader meeting and Care-Mail.
8) Responsible for writing and editing the A.S. Annual report in coordination with the CAB advisor.
9) Responsible for attending at least two (2) non-consecutive Senate meetings per quarter to report on the Board’s action.
10) Must hold a minimum of five (5) office hours per week.
11) Shall attend all BCC Chair Council Meetings.
12) Hold at least two (2) quarterly meetings with each coordinator to oversee and support volunteer projects and ideas. Two one on one personal check-ins.
13) Actively assist and facilitate the organizing process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week as well as participate in the week’s events.
PUBLIC RELATIONS (2)
This position entails being an outgoing, enthusiastic person who is dedicated to recruiting more CABBIES and spreading the word about our organization. Duties will include setting up CAB tabling on a monthly basis, implementing flyers around campus, maintaining the CAB Facebook account, e-mailing/calling/reaching out to clubs/Greek organizations, and assisting with all publicity needs of other leaders and ongoing projects. Anyone who is high-spirited and passionate about informing students about our many volunteer opportunities and programs is strongly encouraged to apply for this position!
1) Serve as the primary liaison between the Greek community and Resident Assistants, informing them of upcoming volunteer opportunities on campus and the surrounding community.
2) Coordinate publicity needs of all key volunteer members.
3) Compose and send out Public Service Announcements and articles to local news sources (Daily Nexus, The Bottom Line, SB Independent, KCSB Radio, Facebook, etc) to help the community reach greater awareness about CAB’s presence and activities.
4) Shall assume the responsibilities of the Co-Chairs in their absence.
5) Organize monthly campus tabling at the UCEN or Arbor for recruiting CAB members and volunteers for projects and events.
6) Hold a minimum of three (3) office hours per week.
7) Responsible for coordinating all public relations activities with the campus community regarding volunteer programs, projects and events sponsored by CAB, campus organizations, and local, national and international non-profits.
8) Connect with ALL organizations on campus who share a similar mission as CAB so that we may collaborate and work together.
9) Reach out to greater organizations in the Santa Barbara Area who share similar mission as CAB so that we may collaborate and work together.
10) Keep the CAB website and Facebook page updated with current events and announcements on Care-Mail on a weekly basis.
11) Organize and/or facilitate a minimum of seven monthly campus tabling events at the UCEN, Annex or Arbor for recruiting CAB members and volunteers for projects and events.
12) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.
SOCIAL CHAIR
This position is all about being social! The Internal Community Coordinator (ICC) works to create a sense of connectedness within CAB through fun volunteer opportunities and socials. Past events planned by the ICC include BBQs, movie nights, bowling, and hikes. Social butterflies with fun ideas to bring people together are encouraged to apply for this position.
1) In charge of coordinating events that will help build community amongst CAB Leaders. Plan events such as barbecues, social gatherings, and outings. A minimum of three (1) per quarter.
2) In charge of coordinating events that will help build community amongst all of CAB (open to everyone). Plan events such as, but not limited to, barbecues, social gatherings and outings.
3) Hold a minimum of two (2) minor social events on campus. These could be an activity where CAB partners up with an organization event that is already on campus. (ie: “Lets all go to the Improvability tonight!) These minor events could include projects that you do not specifically plan and organize.
4) Hold a minimum of three (3) office hours per week.
5) Help coordinate icebreakers, activities and mini-volunteer projects for weekly CAB meetings.
6) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.
HOUSELESS & HUNGER (2)
As the Houseless/Hunger Co-coordinator, your main duties include setting up a breakfast meal at least once a week where you feed the houseless community of Isla Vista. You will also be in charge of building a trusting relationship with the people you serve, so consistency is key for this position. For this role you will have the opportunity to reach out to different organizations dedicated to helping the houseless community in Santa Barbara, such as Casa Esperenza, and also meet with community organizers who are familiar with the history of homelessness in our town. The best candidates will go beyond their main duties to find ways they can help these groups and get more cabbies involved.
1) Plan and implement programs that will have a sustainable impact on the homeless community in Isla Vista. This position will be run by two (2) coordinators who will share the following duties.
2) Coordinate at least three (3) events each quarter benefiting hunger or houseless issues.
3) Connect with local organizations (churches, Street Health Outreach, etc.) who share a similar mission to serve the houseless in our community.
4) To hold two (2) office hours per week exclusive to CAB related meetings and fieldwork.
5) Organize and lead at least one meal a week serving the houseless (ie: Breakfast Club).
6) Look for more substantial ways to help ease or solve the issue of houseless or hunger per quarter for the weekly meetings.
7) Responsible for selecting one (1) speaker who can talk about the issue of houseless/hunger per quarter for the weekly meetings.
8) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.
HISTORIAN
The historian mainly keeps a visual record of CAB events by collecting pictures of CAB events. It is a great way to get to know people and the community in a very relaxed manner. Some concrete duties entail updating the board outside the CAB office, the passive in the UCen, and photos on our website. A quarterly slideshow is also strongly suggested. Interested applicants should have enthusiasm for looking at the world in a different way.
1) Responsible for collecting and compiling documentation about CAB projects and events. Photograph ALL CAB events and programs personally (or have a proxy document for you if you cannot attend personally), keeping them organized and accessible throughout the year (download all files on CAB computers).
2) Upload photos on CAB website as well as Facebook.
3) Prepare the annual CAB Slideshow.
4) Hold two (2) office hours per week.
5) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.
ALTERNATIVE BREAKS (2)
Cab Alternative Break Co-Coordinators work together to plan volunteering trips during breaks outside of the UCSB community. Researching break locations, publicizing the breaks, selecting volunteer attendees, and leading the trip are some of the few responsibilities of the coordinators. Being able to lead a group, plan ahead, and work closely with others are important for this amazing leadership opportunity.
1) Be a liaison between the organization and the students attending the trip.
3) Make sure that all forms, funding, liabilities etc. are complete for each trip.
4) Recruit volunteers for the trips.
5) Maintain a relationship and connection with other Alternative Break organizations.
6) Attend and lead the trips, or if unable, inform and prepare a substitution.
7) Be responsible for coordinating at least three (3) CAB volunteer trips or programs throughout the year, one (1) being during Spring recess. These planned trips must foster community service.
8) Hold at least two (2) office hours per week to be served in the Community Affairs Board Office.
9) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.
TREASURER
The Treasurer is in charge of overseeing all CAB financial matters. This includes keeping records of the budget, providing assistance to outside groups regarding funding requests, and ensuring that CAB leaders abide by the AS Financial Code. The Treasurer works closely with the co-chairs, advisors, and AS Administration. A pragmatic, hard-working, and organized student would be an optimal candidate for this position.
1) Prepare the boards budget for the following year in conjunction with the Co-Chairs.
2) Responsible for collecting and returning all requisitions to Co-Chairs.
3) Maintain historical financial records of the CAB.
4) Shall contact funding request liaisons within two (2) days after the meeting to inform them of the board’s decision.
5) Attend one (1) A.S. Finance Board meeting per year.
6) Hold three (3) office hours per week.
7) Keep a very detailed account of the CAB budget (online, as well as in a hard-copy binder), bring this binder to every leader meeting and be prepared to share with the board where we currently stand in our budget and always be looking for ways in which we can save money (this may mean doing research for funding requests to find more similar and inexpensive options).
8) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.
SECRETARY
The Secretary manages much of the organizational aspects of CAB including Care-Mail and minutes. The secretary should have a proficient typing speed to keep up with typing the minutes at leader and general meetings. The secretary does not need to have experience with coding for websites, but it would be helpful for editing the website and blog. A tech-savvy, organized student would be a fantastic candidate for this position.
1) Create and maintain Care-Mail preparing it to be sent by the day of the General meeting.
2) Work with Co-Chairs on finalizing and sending out the minutes from the CAB meeting, Leader meeting, and Care-mail.
3) Update, manage, and maintain the CAB Website.
4) Act as minute-taker at both Leader and General meetings.
5) Hold two (2) office hours a week.
FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM (2)
The CAB Family Literacy Program matches UCSB students with children in the local community to read together in an effort to increase the love of reading. Tutors will spend at least one hour a week with a child, reading together and helping with homework. This position will be run by two (2) coordinators (bilingual preferred) who will share the following duties:
1) Promote the Family Literacy Program through advertisements, flyers, phone calls, radio spots, and any other means possible to recruit new tutors and families.
2) Coordinate the application and matching process with the UCSB students and children in the community.
3) Keep in contact with the families participating to ensure that the program is meeting their needs.
4) Provide a minimum of two (2) activities per quarter in which the tutors can interact with their children outside of the home environment.
5) Maintain an adequate inventory of books, games, puzzles, markers, stickers, etc. for the tutors to use with their children.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
As Special Projects Coordinator you would be in charge of planning CAB projects outside of those defined in other CAB leader positions. In the past this has included events such as You Matter, the Great American Bake Sale, a concert for the houseless community, and collaboration with Pardall Carnival. This is a great way to get valuable event-planning skills while making a difference. Creativity and the ability to think outside the box are great qualities for this position and will assist you in planning new and annual events.
1) Plan and organize reoccurring CAB special Events (YOU MATTER! And Relay for Life, etc.)
2) Create new sustainable events directed towards the UCSB student body.
3) Hold at least three (3) office hours per week to be served in the Community Affairs Board Office.
4) Responsible for looking for strategies and creating and/or finding tools that CAB can use to reach its mission with greater ease and efficiency.
5) Coordinate/Organize CAB’s annual Volunteer Week in collaboration with all other leaders.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The Community Outreach Coordinator is great nonprofit professional networking opportunity. This position entails communicating with local nonprofits in the greater Santa Barbara community connecting them to UCSB student leaders and volunteers. This position is responsible for putting on the Care Expo – CAB’s own nonprofit career fair, serving on the CAB Foundation sub-committee, as well as attending local professional community-service gatherings that often involve free gourmet meals! A businesslike yet communicable demeanor is very valuable for this position.
1) Coordinate all public outreach efforts to provide information about the Community Affairs Board to local nonprofits and businesses in our community.
2) Coordinate outreach presentations for all the CAB programs and events with the CAB Public Relations Coordinator and the necessary media resources.
3) Hold a minimum of two (2) office hours per week.
4) Coordinate and execute the Care-Expo event.
5) Organize at least one tabling event per month at the UCEN or Arbor for recruiting CAB members and volunteers for projects and events.
6) Advertise grant cycles to the student body and the general population through frequently viewed mediums.
7) Attend at least one (1) event every quarter put on by a local fund or support center. This includes active attempts at networking and spreading awareness of the Foundation at these events, and a report back to the Board about the event during the following meeting.
8) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.
SENIOR CITIZEN
The Senior Citizen Coordinator is great opportunity for anyone interested in working with senior citizens. The coordinator is in charge of communicating with local retirement homes such as Friendship Manor or Deveruex to find how students can best assist the residents. This position entails running a weekly reading group and providing other opportunities such as serving meals to the residents as well. Patience and organization skills are crucial for the Senior Citizen Coordinator’s success.
1) Coordinate at least three (3) events per quarter benefiting the senior citizen community.
2) Continue and improve the Adopt a Grandparent program (with Friendship Manor) and the Community Friends program (with Devereux).
3) Responsible for selecting one (1) speaker who can share the needs of senior-citizens per quarter for the weekly meetings.
4) Hold two (2) office hours per week.
5) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.
ENVIRONMENTAL
The Environmental Coordinator plans environmental volunteer opportunities for CAB. This includes but is not limited to beach clean-ups, adopt-a-blocks, trips to local organic farms, earth day, and more. The coordinator also acts as CAB’s liaison to the many environmental groups on and around the UCSB campus. You do not have to be an Environmental Studies Major for this position, you simply need to be passionate about the environment.
1) Coordinate at least three (3) events per quarter benefiting the environment.
2) Responsible for selecting one (1) environmental speaker per quarter for the weekly meetings.
3) Hold two (2) office hours per week.
4) Act as a liaison between CAB and the Environmental Affairs Board (EAB).
5) Inform the community about environmental opportunities and related events.
6) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.
ANIMAL
The Animal Coordinator is in charge of communicating with local animal shelters to provide community service involving animals. Some popular opportunities have included volunteering with dogs, cats, bunnies, horses, and pigs. Planning other animal events such as an Animal Volunteer Fair are strongly encouraged and generally are quite popular. If you enjoy playing and caring for animals then this is the position for you!
1) Coordinate carpool transportation when there is an orientation at the shelters, and if any interested student needs a ride to the events.
2) Inform the public about any important animal related events, and participate in them.
3) Hold two (2) office hours per week.
4) Coordinate at least three (3) events each quarter benefiting animals.
5) Responsible for selecting one (1) animal speaker per quarter for the weekly meetings.
6) Connect with local organizations who share a similar mission to serve the animals in our community.
7) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.
YOUTH OUTREACH
The Youth Outreach Coordinator works with local community organizations as well as plans his/her own volunteer events pertaining to youth (anyone younger than 18 years old). Some volunteer activities in the past have included tutoring, visiting the Boys and Girls Club, participating in after school programs, and working with the Little League Challengers. Volunteering with children is key for this position and as such it is crucial for the coordinator to be patient, enthusiastic, and act as a good role model.
1) Collaborate with the Childcare Coordinator to enhance community involvement.
2) Serve as liaison between various youth programs based in the community.
3) Hold a minimum of three (3) office hours per week.
4) Responsible for coordinating necessary community volunteer opportunities regarding youth.
5) Coordinate at least three events per quarter benefitting youth.
6) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.
CHILDCARE DIRECTOR
A.S. Childcare Director collaborates with the Women’s Center and A.S. Administration office to ensure that undergraduate student parents receive small grants to aid with extra childcare during midterm and finals week. She/He will communicate with the Housing Complex Coordinator of Student Family Housing to reach out to student parents for Parents Night Out events and to provide volunteers for their special events as well. This person ought to be open to all childcare needs in the community and provide resources for people and organizations related to childcare work.
1) To hold three (3) office hours per week exclusive to CAB related meetings and fieldwork.
2) Develop programs/projects and events for undergraduate students with dependent children.
3) Actively participate in the planning process for CAB’s annual Volunteer Week and provide assistance during the week’s events.

6) Duties and responsibilities of the granting Committee:
a) With the help of the Administrative/Advisory Committee, set up application deadlines.
b) Review and award grants.
c) Monies from this account will be distributed in the amount of up to, and not to exceed one hundred twenty-five dollars ($125.00) plus twenty-five ($25.00) for each additional child per student/family per quarter, with the maximum of $200.00 per student/family twice per quarter.
d) Track and provide reports on all grants to ensure individual awards do not exceed one hundred twenty-five dollars ($125.00) plus twenty-five $25.00 for each additional child per student/family per quarter, with the maximum of two hundred dollars ($200.00) per student/family per quarter.
