About

We are comprised of active students who work to bring the campus and community together through service.

The ASUCSB Community Affairs Board (CAB), UCSB’s Volunteer Action Center, is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of all UCSB Students by providing information and easy access to community service work. Through a wide range of projects and community programs, CAB seeks to augment classroom experiences, create opportunities for career exploration, connect UCSB to the community in a meaningful way, and promote the ethics of public service.

Our History

1955

Founding Vision

CAB began and was originally known as the Charities Committee. Students were assigned to work on community service projects.

1968

Re-organized under AS

CAB became a recognized Associated Students Board known as the Community Aid Board.

1970

Rise in importance

CAB changed its name to the current Community Affairs Board and became the largest board of the AS Legislative Council.

2000 and beyond

Where are we now?

Campus programs which began in CAB are now independent organizations such as CalPIRG, La Escuelita, and Community Volunteer Foundation. CAB is now a full-service “Volunteer Action Center” for UCSB students, faculty, staff, and the community to connect to service opportunities. We are the largest student run community service organization at UCSB!
